Piece of Past Up for Auction

Amy L. Edwards of the Orlando Sentinel reports on an auction to be held on November 19th in Davenport:

As grove after grove of orange trees are cleared to make way for development in Four Corners, it may seem as though the region’s rich citrus history is disappearing.

But pieces of the past remain.

Tucked off U.S. Highway 17-92 at 4 State St. in Davenport is an 80-year-old building that in its early years housed Holly Hill Grove & Fruit Co., the business that brought citrus to this part of Polk County.

Rockers are uniting to raise money for victims of Hurricane Katrina.

Green Day, No Doubt, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers are among the bands donating items to the Unite the United Charity Auction, which kicks off this Monday, October 24th, at 12 pm PT on eBay.

Heather Keeney figured it was about time to clear out some of the collectibles around her ranch – and the result is a once-in-a-decade auction of Western antiques.

Vintage vehicles, wagons, buggies, farm equipment, horse implements and other collectibles from a bygone era will be on the auction block July 30 at the Buckeye Ranch in rural Vacaville – an event that impresses even the auctioneers.

The Datamonitor reports that in the first of its kind, an US company has out bid companies from around the world for Ethiopian organic coffee beans:

The auction was the culmination of the ECAFE Foundation’s two-year project that worked with Ethiopian coffee producers to identify high quality coffees and conduct regional and national competitions to promote them.

Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, of Waterbury, Vermont, US made an auction-high bid of $6.50 per pound for Wotona Bultuma cooperative’s fair trade organic beans.

Laconia Vintage Weekend

Bea Lewis of The Citizen reports on Laconia Vintage Weekend being held at Weirs Beach in New Hampshire this Friday and Saturday:

The brainchild of Frank and Cathy Skyes of Wolfeboro, the event combines the 7th Annual New Hampshire Boat Auction with a classic boat show, a display of classic cars and hot rods and an antiques and collectible marketplace.

One of the more unusual items to hit the auction block is a sterling silver Shreve, Crump and Lowe lady’s compact. Enameled naval flags on the compact’s cover spell out, “I Love You.”
