September 8, New York. The New York Map Society meets at 2:30 pm., New York Public Library, Classroom B, in the South Court's Celeste Bartos Education Center, 42nd Street and Fifth Avenue, New York City. John Cloud, Historian & Geographer, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, will be speaking at this meeting. Details, contact Sy Amkraut.

September 8, Richmond, Virginia. The Library of Virginia, 800 E. Broad Street, Richmond. 1:00 PM. A presentation by the Library of Virginia Foundation's Fry-Jefferson Map Society. Dr. Joyce Chaplin, the James Duncan Phillips Professor of Early American History at Harvard University, will discuss Mapping Population in Early Virginia. Dr. Michael Gaudio, assistant professor of art history at the University of Minnesota, presents Virginia through the Engraver's Eyes: Theodor de Bry and his Influence.

September 13-15, Oxford, England. London in Text and History, 1400-1700. Jesus College, Oxford. A joint conference of the Centre for Early Modern British and Irish History at the University of Oxford, the Centre for Metropolitan History in the School of Advanced Study at the University of London, and Bath Spa University. The conference will focus on the rapid growth of London during three centuries, and includes examination of topographical guides, paintings, engravings, and maps, among other fields. September 14-15, Denver, Colorado. The 2007 Rocky Mountain Antique Map Fair, presented by the Rocky Mountain Map Society. Denver Public Library, 13th & Broadway, Denver. Featuring dealers from the U.S. and overseas, exhibiting a wide range of maps from the 1500s to the present. As part of the fair, Dr. Stephen Hoffenberg will give a lecture on the topic Cartography of the Indian Country, on Saturday, at 1 PM. The lecture takes place in the Gates Room of the Library.

September 15, Washington's Birthplace, Virginia. A field trip by the Washington Map Society, to a public re-enactment by the Surveyor's Historical Society of Washington's first land survey at his family estate.
